Hi there.
My name is Siobhan and I am the Healthy Living Dietitian.
For the past 7 years, I have been working as a Registered Dietitian in various specialist areas of the NHS. Firstly working in Cardiff, then Somerset and now North Devon, I have extensive experience working in Critical Care, Oncology, Stroke and Gastroenterology, to name but a few.
In my current NHS role as Specialist Gastroenterology/Colorectal Dietitian, I support individuals with a range of digestive conditions such as IBS, IBD, Eating Disorders, Liver Disease, Nutrition related issues due to oncology treatment or surgery and Coeliac Disease.
Always looking to further my dietetic skills and knowledge, I have undertaken a Postgraduate Diploma, specialist training to support individuals with IBS, Pancreatic insufficiency and Disordered eating. I am a full time member of the British Dietetic Association as well as both the Gastroenterology and Freelance Dietitians group.
Over time, I have come to realise that the demand and pressure on the NHS (where patient load and numbers rule!) makes it impossible to provide the type and quality of care patients optimally need. I want to be able to provide more intensive nutrition counselling and support, rather than seeing my clients once every few months.
So a little about me, me.
I was born in Australia but moved to Ireland when I was 4 and spent the rest of my childhood there. After my initial undergraduate training, I spent 2 years working and travelling around Australia. I was very tempted to stay but a 24 hour plane journey was just too far away! I love my Irish roots but love the sun and the sea more so as a bit of middle ground, have based myself with my husband and son in North Devon.
We all know how busy life can be, which can make being ‘healthy’ tricky at times. One of my aims with starting Healthy Living Dietitian is to help support people lead ‘healthier’ realistic lives that in turn makes them feel more energised and fulfilled.
